Event Day Program

9:00 AM ­- Registration Opens

9:50 AM ­- Opening remarks

10:00 AM ­-­ Brain tumor survivor story

10:05 AM ­- ­Survivor Photo in front of the stage. All survivors at the event are encouraged to be in the photo.

10:10 AM ­-­ Walk begins!

11:00 AM ­- The final walkers should be arriving ­- we¹ll settle back into our areas. Silent Auction closes.

11:15 AM ­-­ Guest Research Speaker

11:30 AM ­- ­Announcement of our final fundraising numbers and distribution of fundraising prizes. Top team and top individual fundraisers will be acknowledged during the closing ceremony.

Rain or shine the event will go on! Regardless of weather, layered clothing, windbreakers, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended.

Our event will be held at the Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza in between Henessey’s Tavern and The Mermaid Restaurant near the running pathway known as “The Strand.”

Walk Route

The walk route will stay on the bike and running pathway known as The Strand. We will first head northbound toward Manhattan Beach. We will eventually make a U-turn once you reach the end of the Hermosa Beach strand and go the opposite direction on the pathway until you reach your original destination at Pier Plaza.

Parking Details

Parking is very limited around the site. There are “Pay By Space” parking meters currently located in Parking Lot A at 11th Street & Hermosa Avenue and in the Downtown Parking Structure at 13th & Hermosa Avenue. Drop Off
You may utilize Beach Dr., an alley just east of The Mermaid Restaurant lot, for quick drop off.

Silent Auction
We encourage Teams and/or individual participants to bring silent auction items to this year’s Los Angeles Brain Tumor Walk! The amount raised for the items you bring will go back to your team or individual fundraising tally.

We highly recommend that you bring a full description of the silent auction item(s), a starting bid that you’d like, as well as your Team or individual name so we know who to credit. Please feel free to bring as many silent auction items as you’d like. Silent Auction items will be in a designated canopy on the day of the event and you can drop them off to the volunteer in charge of the area.

Food at the Walk
We will have water and granola bars in the morning of our participants on a first come first served basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a registration fee?

Registration for the Walk is $25. Youth under 18 are free. All participants receive a free t-shirt. Upon registration, you will receive a personal fundraising page and useful online tools to help you jumpstart your efforts. Even after the event is over, you will still have access to your personal fundraising page, allowing you to maximize your impact in the fight against brain tumors.

Am I required to fundraise a minimum amount?

Adults are encouraged to raise a minimum of $500 or more to help fund the discovery of a cure and better treatments for brain tumors.

Where do Brain Tumor Events funds go?

Proceeds from the event support research to find a cure for brain tumors, public policy advocacy, and patient information to make sure the critical needs of the brain tumor community are met, through the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS).

Do I need to register my children?

No, children 17 and younger do not need to register or pay a fee to attend the event. However, we strongly encourage you to register your children ahead of time so that we can anticipate their attendance and secure their commemorative t-shirt.

I plan to participate to support one of my friends and their team. Do I still have to register?

If you are walking, running or riding you must register to participate. If you plan to attend as a cheering section, you do not need to register. Registration is open the day of the event.

Can I walk and volunteer?

Yes! If you plan to walk and volunteer, please register as a Walker FIRST, and then email your contact information to us.

What are Matching Gift Programs?

Many employers have matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. Ask your employer or HR department for more information. Generally, you will be asked to complete and submit a form to NBTS for approval. This form can be sent to the above address.

Are pets allowed at the event?

Pets are allowed as long as they are on a leash that is less than 6 feet long.

All registered participants, volunteers, and survivors receive a t-shirt.
