Fun Run Registration & Check-In: 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM. Fun Run Start Time: Fun Run starts at 8:30 AM before walk
Walk Registration & Check-In: 8:30 AM – 9:45 AM. Walk Start Time: Walk starts at 10 AM.
Length of Event: 3K Fun Run and 5K Walk

Event Day Program

With your $25 registration fee, you gain full access to food, beverages and all event activities. In addition, you’ll have access to an online personal fundraising page after the event to continue raising funds all year long. Event T-shirts are given out to Participants, Volunteers and Survivors.

  • 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Fun Run Registration & Check-In
  • 7:30 AM: Pre-Run Stretch 10 min stretch at stage (for runners)
  • 8:30 AM: *Fun Run Starts
  • 8:30 AM-9:45 AM: Walk Registration & Check-In
  • 9:10 AM: *Toddler Trot (located behind Kids’ Tent)
  • 9:30 AM: Survivor Photo at stage
  • 9:40 AM: *Team Captain Memorial at stage
  • 10:00 AM: Walk Starts
  • 10:05 AM: *Remembrance Ceremony (located in the Honor/Celebrate Tent

Neither the walk or fun run is a race and those who wish to remain in the picnic area during the event are welcome to do so.

Closing ceremonies will begin once the majority of walkers are back onsite. Top team and top individual fundraisers will be acknowledged during the closing ceremony.

*New for 2016: 3k (2 mile) Costume Fun Run: The Boston Brain Tumor Fun Run is a non-competitive, friendly run that celebrates fitness goals of all levels. The Fun Run will not be timed or scored and we encourage participation from people of all ages and abilities. If you are competitive at heart, we suggest you put some of that competitiveness to see if you have what it takes to become a top fundraiser! Runners may wear costumes to get into the spirit of the Halloween season!

The Fun Run will start and finish before the walk, so runners may participate in both the run and the walk – there is no need to register twice! Teams may consist of runners, walkers or virtual participant in any combination. Registration for the Fun Run and the Walk is $25. Youth under 18 are free. Runners and walkers receive the same fundraising incentives.

Please Note: Runners MUST check-in at the event site (DCR Mother’s Rest at Carson Beach) and will be shuttled to the start line. 

  • Registration & Check-In: 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM. At event site: DCR Mother’s Rest at Carson Beach.
  • Pre-Run Stretch (Optional): 7:30 AM. 10 min stretch. At the stage.
  • Run Shuttle: 7:45 AM – 8:15 AM. Pick up at event site: DCR Mother’s Rest at Carson Beach.
  • Run Start: 8:30 AM.

Fun Run Route:

  • Busses will arrive at the event site and shuttle runners to starting point. The route will run along Umass Harborwalk, starting near the Bianculli Boulevard/UMass Harborwalk intersection and ending at the main event site (DCR Mother’s Rest at Carson Beach). The run course is not a loop.


Please note: Space is limited for the Fun Run. 200 runners maximum. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged for the Fun Run.

*New for 2016: Toddler Trot: Age Requirements: 1-5 years. No fee, entries will only be taken on the day of the contest. Please register at the registration/check-in tent. Time: 9:10 AM. All contestants must register and line-up by the beach area (look for the colored cones). Contestants will be lined up at the starting line and at the signal, will be encouraged to run to the finish line. All children must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years and over. One adult per child in race area, please. In the event of inclement weather, the Toddler Trot may be cancelled. An announcement will be made the day of.

*New for 2016: Remembrance Ceremony: At 10:05am, we invite all participants to join the National Brain Tumor Society for an intimate Remembrance Ceremony for loved ones of our brain tumor angels. The ceremony will provide a space to take a few undisturbed minutes to reflect and honor your loved one’s memory. The ceremony will consist of a group reading and moment of silence for those who have lost their battle. Please note this ceremony is open to all participants who wish to attend. As the ceremony will only be a few minutes long, you will be able to join the walk at the completion of the ceremony.

*Team Captain Memorial: Before the walk begins, we will be holding a memorial where we invite team captains to the stage to share the name of the person they are walking for. Listen for this announcement.


Drop-Off Information
You may drop off any participants who have trouble walking at our designated drop-off/loading area. Look for the sign! Use 180 Mount Vernon Street, Dorchester, MA 02125 in your GPS to find the event site (Please be sure the zip code is 02125).

Shuttle Information 

Busses will be available and running back and forth regularly from the JFK/UMass MBTA station and designated parking lots (Santander, John McCormack School, Boston Globe) to the event site, starting at 7:30 AM. Look for the sign on the bus that says “Brain Tumor Walk & Fun Run”. If you are arriving before shuttles are available, not to worry, JFK/UMass MBTA station and most of the parking lots (except for the Boston Globe) are within a 5-10 minute walk to the event site.


**Note: Due to construction at UMass, parking will be located at various sites so please read below for specific details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a registration fee?

Registration for the Walk & Fun Run is $25. Youth under 18 are free. All participants receive a free t-shirt. Upon registration, you will receive a personal fundraising page and useful online tools to help you jumpstart your efforts. Even after the event is over, you will still have access to your personal fundraising page, allowing you to maximize your impact in the fight against brain tumors.

Am I required to fundraise a minimum amount?

Adults are encouraged to raise a minimum of $500 or more to help fund the discovery of a cure and better treatments for brain tumors.

Where do Brain Tumor Events funds go?

Proceeds from the event support research to find a cure for brain tumors, public policy advocacy, and patient information to make sure the critical needs of the brain tumor community are met, through the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS).

Do I need to register my children?

No, children 17 and younger do not need to register or pay a fee to attend the event. However, we strongly encourage you to register your children ahead of time so that we can anticipate their attendance and secure their commemorative t-shirt.

I plan to participate to support one of my friends and their team. Do I still have to register?

If you are walking, running or riding you must register to participate. If you plan to attend as a cheering section, you do not need to register. Registration is open the day of the event.

Can I walk and volunteer?

Yes! If you plan to walk and volunteer, please register as a Walker FIRST, and then email your contact information to us.

What are Matching Gift Programs?

Many employers have matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. Ask your employer or HR department for more information. Generally, you will be asked to complete and submit a form to NBTS for approval. This form can be sent to the above address.

Are pets allowed at the event?

Pet policies vary, and are based on the rules of each venue. If pets are permitted at the venue, please keep your pets on a leash at all times. And, if your pet does not do well in large crowds, please consider leaving them at home. Please do not leave your pet in your car during the event.

Will I receive an event t-shirt?

All registered participants, volunteers, and survivors receive a t-shirt.
